In this article I have listed three easy ways to help you stop stress and anxiety. These methods have proven to be effective for many people just like you. By practicing these methods some people have reported a decrease in their stress and anxiety. While others have successfully been able to put an end to their stress and anxiety!
Everyone experiences some level of stress on a daily basis. This is what is commonly known as healthy stress. Small doses of stress keep us on our toes, so to speak. However, when our stress and anxiety begin to rule or ruin our lives, it’s time to put an end to it.
Too much stress leads to anxiety, which leads to an unhealthy and unhappy life. Once you are able to stop stress and anxiety, you will be amazed at how enjoyable your life can be again.
Therapists who specialize in helping people learn to stop stress and anxiety use several different methods. All of which are designed to calm the mind and refocus it on something that is relaxing.
I have listed only three methods from hundreds of commonly used methods to stop stress and anxiety. These methods can be done alone or in conjunction with one or more methods on the list.
All three of these methods have proven to be extremely beneficial in decreasing and even putting a complete stop to stress and anxiety. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could live life again just by spending a few minutes a day practicing a simple method? Of course it would, you deserve to be stress and anxiety free!
Journaling
By writing your thoughts down in a journal, you are able to release them. In mild to moderate cases this is beneficial, in more severe cases the person may need to write the thoughts a few times and even reread what has been written. By journaling the event(s) that caused stress and anxiety, you can see more clearly whether or not the situation is even worthy of causing stress or anxiety in your life.
Quiet Time
Set aside 30 minutes each evening for your own personal quiet time. This is best done an hour or two before bed, especially if you have difficulty sleeping. During your quiet time you can meditate, listen to soothing music, shut your eyes and repeat a comforting saying to yourself over and over again. If you have a favorite song you can sing it to yourself.
There are several things you can do to accomplish the quieting of your mind, anything that will take your mind off of the thoughts that have created stress and anxiety. When you have completed this exercise either retire to bed for the night or do something such as read a book or watch a comedy on TV, this will keep those pesky stressful, anxiety thoughts away.
Deep Breathing
This method is one of the oldest methods used to stop stress and anxiety. Not only is it the oldest, many mental health care providers believe it is the best! Most people who suffer from stress and anxiety take short shallow breaths. In other words they do not breath properly, when you inhale your stomach should also move in an inward motion and when you exhale your stomach should move in an outward motion. To stop stress and anxiety try deep breathing. It is very simple to do.
Lie down if you can or sit as straight as possible in a chair. Take a deep breath (the type you take at the doctors office when he/she says take a deep breath.) Hold the breath and count to three, as you exhale do it slowly counting to five. By the time you reach five you have completed a deep breath. Do this several times until you feel the stress and anxiety are gone. If you have difficulty sleeping due to stress and anxiety this is also an excellent method to help relax your mind and body and fall to sleep easily.
Often times prescription medications may be needed to help you get through the real rough times until you are able to function enough to put the above methods to use.
